Tuco 'believes' in grass roots talent and supports Australian up and coming artists. We collaborate with vocalists and producers, specifically developing their entry into the industry, setting a path to wider exposure. We are a small, dynamic outfit, able to give greater share to emerging artists and the music community.
Tuco was founded in 2014 by UK musician and producer, Chris Pehrson (The Monkeynauts, The Echo) and has partnered with Andy Hemsley, to help bring the ideas and aspirations to the fore. Both Chris and Andy have known each other for many years and share the same vision on how Tuco will be the stepping stone for home grown talent.
Andy - "There's a an existing industry model that caters well for commercial interests but I think there is a gap between viable artists that get airplay and the quality artists out there, that struggle to get a foothold. Record labels are rarely in a position to develop talent from the ground up and that's where Tuco is focused."
Tuco's key plan is to be a respected incubator for new artists, working from of a collaborative art space in South East Melbourne with rehearsal rooms, studio and facilities to host live performances.
Chris - "Tuco isn't an old school label. We want to see Tuco convert to not-for-profit status asap, crowd funding projects to genuinely connect artists with new fans. The industry has evolved and the technology available enables agile labels with low overheads and more emphasis on the art. We won't lock artists into complicated contracts as our aim is be the springboard to expose new artists to the organisations that can catapult their careers."
